Editorial policy and methodology

Guides are published by the WhatIsMyCatBreed.com Editorial Team. Our goal is to make breed identification and cat-care concepts understandable while being clear about uncertainty and the limits of online tools.

Research and sources

We prefer primary research, veterinary associations, university veterinary resources, recognized breed registries, and established animal-welfare organizations. Important medical or breed claims should be tied to an identifiable source wherever practical. We distinguish visual clues from pedigree or genetic proof.

Calculators and estimates

Calculator pages explain their inputs, formulas, units, and important limitations. Results are estimates, not diagnoses or prescriptions. Medication conversion starts only after a veterinarian has provided an appropriate dose. Emergency-risk tools are designed to encourage prompt professional help, not rule it out.

Review labels

We do not call content “veterinarian reviewed” or “vet approved” unless a named, qualified reviewer has actually reviewed that version and the page identifies that person. At present, articles are editorially reviewed and should not be interpreted as having individual veterinary sign-off.

AI and automation

The photo identifier uses an AI model to interpret visible traits. Its output is a visual estimate, not a DNA result. Automated or AI-assisted drafting may be used during production, but the editorial team remains responsible for checking claims, removing unsupported certainty, and correcting published material.

Updates and corrections

We review pages when formulas, sources, product behavior, or standards change. Material corrections should update the page and its revision date. To report a factual error, broken link, unsafe instruction, or disclosure issue, email hello@whatismycatbreed.com or use the contact page. Please include the page URL and the supporting source.
