What is WhatIsMyCatBreed.com?
WhatIsMyCatBreed.com is a free AI-powered visual cat breed estimator. You upload a photo and receive a possible breed match, a model-generated visual match estimate, and general breed information.
Whether you adopted a rescue cat, took in a stray, or simply want clues about visible traits, the tool provides a convenient starting point with no sign-up. It cannot verify pedigree or genetic ancestry from a photograph.
We built this because we believe every cat deserves to be understood — and every cat owner deserves the knowledge to care for their companion in the best possible way.
How the AI identifies cat breeds
Our tool sends the submitted image to Google's Gemini API, a multimodal model that can interpret images and text. It considers visible features such as coat texture and colour, ear and head shape, body proportions, and tail appearance.
The result includes a possible match, general breed information, and a percentage generated by the model. That percentage is a visual match estimate, not a measured probability of ancestry.
For mixed-breed and rescue cats, the model may list breeds with similar visible characteristics. These suggestions are clues only; they are not genetic percentages.
A note on accuracy: We have not published a controlled accuracy study for this tool. Similar-looking breeds, kittens, and mixed-breed cats can be difficult to distinguish from photos. See the result as a hypothesis to investigate, not a definitive record.

WhatIsMyCatBreed.com is built and maintained by two collaborators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Their academic backgrounds bring computer science and veterinary medicine together in one practical resource for cat owners.

Clear photo handling
Our application code does not save submitted images to a database or publish them. Google processes each image to return the model response.
